Hey Minis! I'm the writer and creator of Mini Penny Blog and I'm so stoked that you're here.
Where do we start?
I grew up in rural Ohio as a sort-of child prodigy in my small home town. Artist. Scholar. Whatever. During my childhood, I spent my time at Northwestern University taking college-level biology classes and exploring Chicago.
In my early years, I had many jobs. I've worked in bakeries, I've worked in the service industry, as a graphic designer for a realty company, and even a store manager for (hah!) Claire's Boutiques. After working for Apple, being laid off in early 2009, and jumping to freelance wedding and lifestyle photography, I picked up a part time gig with Urban Outfitters retail in Columbus, Ohio.
And so my journey began.
In 2011, while at Urban Outfitters, I started this blog with hopes to grow knowledge, community, and a resumé. In fall of 2011, I made the move with Urban to Chicago — my dream city. I continued to work hard and network through Mini Penny, and eventually was promoted to Urban Outfitters home office in 2012.
I moved to Philadelphia in the later portion of that year to begin working as Urban Outfitters's Social Media Manager. I worked hard and showed numbers, but was losing faith quickly in my surroundings and coworkers.
After much thought, I decided to leave my spotlight position at Urban Outfitters to focus on a brand that I hold much closer: Mini Penny. Since the fall of 2013, I have been working full time on my blog and shops, and I'm so happy to be back in Chicago.
Lesson: Money doesn't buy happiness.
I'm a tech nerd. A photo buff. I'm a bit awkward and shy but getting over it. I have strong opinions and I'm not afraid to share 'em. I spend a lot of time in thrift stores and estate sales. And I'm lovin' every minute of my life in the midwest.
My work has been featured on ABC news, Decibel Magazine, published in Instant: The Story of Polaroid, Refinery29 Chicago, and more.
I hope you enjoy your stay. If you ever have something you'd like to let me know, I'm happy to receive emails at email@example.com. I look forward to building a community with you!
Everything that you see on this blog is from me unless otherwise noted. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing your own work being stolen and used elsewhere without consent. If you're interested in featuring any of my photos or tutorials, please let me know! I'm happy to share but require proper credit. Also, I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't share any of my photos on WeHeartIt or Pinterest. Let's make the internet a better place by giving credit where credit is due! Thanks.
