The Long and the Short of It

I love a good thrift day. The last Wednesday of every month is Ohio Thrift's 50% day — and normally I don't venture to go out into the crowds, but today I decided to give it a try. After a heaping cart of goodies, I narrowed it down to a few items. This dress ended up being $1.50! Great, right?

I think my favorite find of the day, though, has to be this necklace. It was living in one of the glass cases and just called to me. One of the employees was nice enough to take a break from their mile-long line to let me see it for a moment — and once I held it and felt the weight, I had to have it. I "splurged" on it at $7, but heck... I am just in love with it. This specific thrift store is really getting good at their jewelry game. Recently I bought an awesome Flying Whale brooch from the same store that I adore.

And to add even more excitement to my day, I'm really in love with today's portrait. When I picked Geoff up from work, we chose a spot just behind our store near some rusty stair doors. It was shaded with a peak of sunlight coming in from the trees. I really love the highlight of my face! And for those of you who are wondering, the lip color is NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo! I'm really into matte everything this season.

I'm creeping closer and closer to my 100th outfit post. It's crazy to think that I haven't missed a day yet! So much thanks all around. :)

I say toe-mah-toe! Cheers, everyone! It has been a mildly productive Tuesday — and I say that because I made a batch of yummy chocolate cupcakes! Okay, it's no amazing feat, but I do love cuppy-cakes. And I will be enjoying one with a scoop of black cherry ice cream later on...

Last night I took some serious inspiration from The Dainty Squid and gave my nails a much needed coat or two of lovely paint. Kaylah is always posting the best nail tutorials, and I really wanted to give my own a shot. A little sloppy, sure, but cute nonetheless! Instagram makes the colors a little strange, but I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Sonic Blue (a cajun red), Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Bubblegum Pink, and American Apparel in cotton for the dots.

This blouse has the best embroidered collar! I'm totally digging details like this these days. Pick up this gem in my Etsy Shop!

So pardon the teeny outfit post. I've been working my part time job much more than usual and haven't had much time for DIY projects and tutorials. I promise, though, that when I have the time, I will be doing an awesome DIY galaxy-print tutorial. I have some sheer tights and a sheer blouse that I'm excited to gallaxy-ify. I really wanted to pick up the Assymestrical Universe Dress from Romwe, but when I got around to checking out, the last one had sold! Eep!

These shorts started as an "ugly" pair of wide legged lady capris when I thrifted them. Now they're perfectly pegged and the gingham is the perfect picnic-wear — or in my case, the perfect everyday-wear. I really do love going through the capris at the thrift store because they normally have much crazier patterns than full-length pants and are so easy to shorten to the cutest summer bottoms!

Layers and Lilac + NYX Giveaway Winner

Click to buy this Dress
Today's weather was uhh-may-zing! It was in the mid-70°s today, which is totally perfect for this little lady.

Today was back to work day! It's strange how the weekend seemed so much longer than normal, even with all of that driving. We had a good time, though, as you've probably noticed through the photos.

Oh, yeah, and don't worry, Minis! I didn't forget. It's time to announce the NYX "All I've Ever Wanted" Palette winner! Drumroll please....

Congrats to Ms. Jackie! Thanks so much to everyone for entering and keep your eyes peeled for more giveaways soon. Meanwhile, don't forget that you can win free advertising space for September for your blog or shop. Tomorrow is the last day to enter! What are you waiting for?

Also, I keep forgetting to update everyone with the link to vote for me in the Weekly PacSun Dress Irresponsibly challenge. I uploaded today's look to the new challenge that started today, Load Up on Layers. I'd really love it if you could give me a vote! You can do so by going to this page and clicking 'vote'!

I'm getting more and more excited about the new Lime Crime line that comes out in a few days called Lip Noir. I love all the colors so much, but think I'm really leaning towards Chinchilla and Glamour 101. The deep red is a must have for fall! I'm wearing Lime Crime's D'Lilac in these photos. I really, really love this color. It certainly doesn't hurt that the lipstick is so creamy and smooth... and lasts all day with my ELF Lip Primer!

I made this crop top from some extra fabric I had after altering an old Jessica McClintock dress. I really dig this crop and have recently been more apt to layer tops over dresses. This was perfectly comfortable for today's weather. Also, the more I wear these Big Buddha shoes, the more in love I am. These are seriously some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I can't get enough of 'em!

Weekend-stagram

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm excited to share a few smaller tidbits of my weekend! All of these were taken and shared through Instagram.

I hate to think that I'm a heavy packer, but after reviewing what I was taking with me, I suppose that sometimes I am. I packed up my two Fred Perry Hold Alls. In my defense, camera gear and my laptop do take up quite a bit of space! Aside from that, I'm pretty good about using space efficiently and only taking what I know I'll need and want. The photo on the right is a rusted out bridge that we drove across in Pennsylvania on our way to the house. Since we left around 3pm, we hit these bridges as the sky was beginning to change colors!

The wallpaper in the house was great. There were a few rooms that I forgot to snap before we left, but these are from the kitchen, living room, and one of the upstairs bedrooms. Lovely, right?

I know I already posted photos of Ohiopyle State Park, but the place was really amazing! I can't help but share more.

There was a small place near the house called Indian Head Snack Bar. It is a favorite of Geoff's family (and after I had their pancakes, I can understand why!). It's a small little place just off the road and has some interesting items on the walls. One of those is this old embroidered portrait of a Native American. It was really beautiful — and huge!

I missed Kitty a whole bunch while we were gone. While at Fallingwater, we stopped in the gift shop while waiting and they had this crazy Moleskine that was a Cat Journal. Now, I own the Recipe Journal — along with many other Moleskines — but I had no idea that this existed. Also, I doodled a sloppy little Kitty on my placemat at the Snack Bar in attempts to show Geoff's nephew what she looks like. Hah!

Again, Fallingwater was too great for words!

A lonely rocking chair sits on the porch of the house. It was a really quaint home that, in a few small ways, reminded me of the grandparents' place.

And finally (maybe this is cheating since it actually from the trip), the sunrise as we left the apartment this morning and headed to work. As much as I love going on trips and weekend warriors, I do love home, too. I can't wait until our next adventure!

Fallingwater

I'm so happy to let you all know that we did indeed make it to Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Fallingwater today. It was pretty unbelievable and full of tons of inspiration for both myself and Geoffrey. If you're ever in this part of PA, I recommend it!

The weather was awesome. It was in the 70°s and partly cloudy. If was definitely a nice last day for our trip. We started the day at a small diner in Indian Head, Pennsylvania, where we had breakfast with Geoff's family. And can I just say that these were hands down the best pancakes I've ever had? I must find a similar recipe!

After breakfast we went to Fallingwater. We were there for almost two hours taking a tour of the inside and  exploring the grounds. I'm really happy with the amount of the property we got to see for the price (it was $20 per person), but the only thing I wish was that they'd allow photography indoors. The trick is that you have to pay for the more expensive tour to be able to snap photos. Alas, I got a few from the outside that work for the time being. My favorite part of the home were the stairs that lead from the living room down to the creek. You can spot them in the lower photo.

And again, since today was another day in the woods, I opted for a comfy outfit. I figured that a long tank and leggings paired with my favorite thrifted jacket would do — and at first I was going to wear heels. After being around the Fallingwater property, I'm really glad that I changed my mind.

The four hour drive home was pretty simple, but tiring. We're at home now, snacking a little and cuddling with Kitty. I missed her so very much while we were gone! I swear, I'm just slowly turning into a cat lady... (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

I'm going to be sharing the rest of my Instagram photos tomorrow, so keep an eye out!

Ohiopyle State Park

All I can say right now is that I'm all-around tired. We spent today eating and viewing lots of scenic areas. I've certainly eaten more food today than I normally eat in a day, and I've got the tummy ache to prove it! But how could I even think to say no to pierogis?

We're staying in a [very old] house that was built entirely by Geoff's grandfather. If you're not familiar with this part of Pennsylviania, as I wasn't before we came here, it's full of extreme hills and valleys. I grew up in the country (Hocking Hills, Ohio, to be exact), but the hills here are way larger than what I'm used to back home.

So this house… where do I start? Of course with the wallpaper. Holy cow, THE WALLPAPER. It's all got that slight texture that most retro papers do, plus everything is floral patterned. I'll upload all of the wallpaper snaps when I get home Sunday. There's no internet here and barely a call phone signal — totally not the end of the world, but it's really a change from our city lives.

So aside from admiring the old school light switches and the 50s-style table at this house, we had some lunch with Geoff's family today a couple of towns over. It was nice but very filling — way more food than I normally even eat for dinner. After that we hit up Ohiopyle State Park. I'm accustomed to a place called Old Man's Cave that is down near my parent's house, so I was pretty excited to check out this place.

The first thing we saw was a little town that was built up around this tourist area. It was quaint and had little ice cream shops and bike rentals. There was a huge waterfall just off to the side and some nice walkways built out to have a look. As we went deeper, though, we saw what they called a natural waterside. Basically the river had smoothed out the rocks in such a way that people were actually using it as a water slide. We stood and watched some of the kids go down. Interesting, but I didn't bring any swimmable gear nor did I want to get shaken around on some river rocks.

We continued our short trek down to the river, where I waded a bit in the cold currents. It was nice to relax and enjoy the view. Geoff's parents, brother, and nephew were all with us as well, so we rather moseyed around for a few hours.

Upon leaving Ohiopyle, we stopped at a small diner for more food. I cannot tell you how hard it was for me to even finish the small amount of pierogis I ordered! We were going to hit up Soldier's Rock, but alas run out of daylight. That brings us to now. We gave Geoff's nephew his late birthday gift, a remote control muscle car, and they're out crashing it outside. I'm inside with a tummy ache writing my blog post before we head to Wendy's to get it all uploaded. Silly, right? I have to laugh at the idea of it myself.

Tomorrow we head home. I definitely miss Kitty (so much!) and can't wait to sleep in my bed again. Don't get me wrong — I love trips, but there's just something so special about getting back to home sweet home! On our way out we might stop at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. I'm really hoping we're able to work it out because I really want to see it.

So today's outfit, obviously, was for comfort. Vans are normally the only sneakers I'm willing to go for, and these leopard print Lo-Pros were a must have for me when I saw them on Urban's site a while back. They sold out in just a few days, but I was able to get one of the last few pairs on KarmaLoop. I love 'em! I picked up this denim backpack while I was out thrifting with my mom one day after almost putting it back. I'm so glad I didn't. There have been a few times (this one especially included) that it has been a lifesaver. The fact that I only paid three bucks or so for it makes it all the better.

Goodnight, Minis! It's possible that when you hear from me tomorrow I'll be back in my own apartment. We shall see :)

On The Road Again

Ahh, we made it to Pennsylvania. We are actually sitting in a McDonald's right now using their wifi! Don't worry, we bought a beverage — we're not that rude!

We got a later start on the road than we had wanted, but it's really not so bad considering that the drive is only 4 hours from home. We had to run a bunch of errands before getting on the highway. It definitely set us back a few hours than we planned!

The drive has been nice. So far we've had lots of ear popping, scenic hills, and danceable tunes. I can't wait to have fun this weekend in the wilderness. We're going to be staying at a house that was completely built by Geoff's grandfather! I'm really excited to see it — he says that it has a bunch of old and crazy wallpaper! Yay!

I picked up this shirt on the way out the door from work today. It's super comfy and might be my new favorite basic tee. I'm pretty tempted to buy it in every color, hah! Unfortunately there are only three out at the moment, but you can get one for yourself here. The best part is that they're only $24!

So tomorrow I won't be posting a Beloved Weekly post. There's no internet where we are staying, but I'm going to try my best to share tomorrow's outfit (and Sunday's as well). Cheers, everyone! Hope your weekend is exciting as well.

Hop, Skip and a Jump

The other day when I came home from thrifting and shared my treasures with Geoff, I pulled this out of the bag only to see him cringe a bit. And that's understandable since this started out as a super XL wide-legged jumpsuit. There was just something about it (and the $2 price tag) that I couldn't live without!

Click to enlarge. This is how the jumper started. I knew that I saw something beautiful in it... somewhere! The altering was very simple — all I had to do was take in the sides. I also tapered the legs and brought up the crotch just a tad to give it a harem pant-inspired look. What do you think?

I really love this necklace by (of)matter. I picked this up in January on sale at Urban Outfitters. The first thing it made me think of was LOST. Does anyone else out there love that show? I really miss it sometimes even though the ending was 'meh.' Anyway, this is up cycled from a vintage flip clock. You can pick one up for yourself here!

Cinnamon Park

Happy, happy Wednesday! I'm happy that it's mid-week already because I'm steadily getting more excited about this weekend's road trip. Woo-hoo!

We're heading to (super) rural Pennsylvania to hit up Geoff's family reunion! It should be really scenic and fun. We're going to go see Ohiopyle State Park and (fingers crossed) Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater house. I'm really, really pumped! Have any of you ever been there and toured the property? It's a tad expensive, but I figure we may as well do it while we're out that way! Photo Source: Wikipedia.

We are, of course, unsure whether or not we will have internet access where we are. So if I leave Friday and you don't hear from me all weekend, that would be why! Considering that today marks my 90th outfit post in a row (!!!) I really hope I'm able to update over the weekend — I want to make it to 100 without missing a day!

I listed this dress on my Etsy just a couple of hours ago, and it's already gone! I figured that it would go fast, because, well, it's so dang beautiful. I probably would have kept it for myself, but it's a little big on me. Either way, I can't wait for this beauty to get to her new happy home! Congrats to the buyer — you're going to look great in this!

In The Limelight

I'm having one of those days where I feel so sleepy! I worked a long shift today and then afterwards did some thrift shopping. I picked up some amazing Dolce Vita booties that I'll be sharing later this week. Until then, here's an adorable 60s-inspired dress for you to admire (and buy if you wish!).

I am really into the pattern on this dress. Normally I don't swoon over anything lime green, but this has that perfect texture and structure that I love in a garment. It has super cute bow details and (my favorite) pockets!

I've mostly just been trying to plan for this weekend's trip to Pennsylvania. I'm pretty much addicted to making lists — I think I get that from my mom. I remember when I was little and we'd go on family vacations. My mom would have everything planned out to a tee! While I certainly don't have an itinerary for our rural trip, I am gearing down and determining what I'll be squeezing into my two Fred Perry weekenders. Sheesh.

There's really isn't a lot to write about today. I don't like to sound so boring, but we spent today relaxing, napping, and hanging out with the cat. We're currently cooking up some delicious black bean burgers and that I am overly-excited about. It's been a good three-day weekend and will be time to return to work tomorrow.

Last night's birthday outing was fun. We were doing pretty well with trivia and ran into some guys we know from the bike shop that we regularly go to. Overall, it was a really good night.

A few parts of today's outfit are now for sale in my Etsy shop, so if you're interested you should hop over and check them out! Keep in mind that you get a 10% discount when you use the code BLOGSPOT at checkout. Bonus!

Also, if you didn't hear, there was an F3 tornado in Goderich, Ontario yesterday. While I have never been to this town, I do know that I have a very lovely and friendly follower who lives there. I actually heard about the storm through her Instagram feed. There is currently a Facebook group that has more information about where you can make donations of food or other supplies. My thoughts and heart are with Goderich!

Cameron

We ended up going to the Columbus Museum of Art today for Geoff's birthday. It's free on Sundays, so we just headed down to mosey. There were a few new exhibits that were pretty interesting. The weather wasn't awful — mostly just overcast and a little warm.

I was in a comfy mood today, so I threw on a flannel with some cut offs. I know that you must be thinking that these wedges don't look that comfortable, but they actually aren't so bad.

I can't recall whether or not I spoke about this great brooch I bought last weekend, but here he is! This is my beloved flying whale pin. This is one of my favorite recent thrift finds. I paid a hefty five dollars for it and he's totally worth every penny!

Today's post is super fast and straight forward and I totally apologize for it, but Geoffrey and I are about to head out to Trivia Night! I'm extra-super-duper excited because one of tonight's categories is about Cam from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I can already tell you that I'm going to ace each one of those!

Otherwise, I should be hopping off of here to head out! I hope you've all had an awesome weekend and I chat with all you Minis tomorrow!
