I love a good thrift day. The last Wednesday of every month is Ohio Thrift's 50% day — and normally I don't venture to go out into the crowds, but today I decided to give it a try. After a heaping cart of goodies, I narrowed it down to a few items. This dress ended up being $1.50! Great, right?
I want to send a huge congrats to the winners of the September Advertising Space giveaway! Thanks so much to everyone for entering. The first two drawn were Ashley from Black Crystals and Hannah from She Could Be a Pharmer in Those Clothes. The second were Jen from My Beauty Bunny and Meanz from Koi Story. I'm very excited to introduce these four beautiful ladies to all of you and sharing their links with you! Be sure to keep an eye out for their intros over the next few days.
If you're interested in advertising on Mini Penny for the month of September (and beyond!), you can read more about my advertising rates here.

I say toe-mah-toe! Cheers, everyone! It has been a mildly productive Tuesday — and I say that because I made a batch of yummy chocolate cupcakes! Okay, it's no amazing feat, but I do love cuppy-cakes. And I will be enjoying one with a scoop of black cherry ice cream later on...

I'm so happy to let you all know that we did indeed make it to Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Fallingwater today. It was pretty unbelievable and full of tons of inspiration for both myself and Geoffrey. If you're ever in this part of PA, I recommend it!

All I can say right now is that I'm all-around tired. We spent today eating and viewing lots of scenic areas. I've certainly eaten more food today than I normally eat in a day, and I've got the tummy ache to prove it! But how could I even think to say no to pierogis?

The other day when I came home from thrifting and shared my treasures with Geoff, I pulled this out of the bag only to see him cringe a bit. And that's understandable since this started out as a super XL wide-legged jumpsuit. There was just something about it (and the $2 price tag) that I couldn't live without!

I'm having one of those days where I feel so sleepy! I worked a long shift today and then afterwards did some thrift shopping. I picked up some amazing Dolce Vita booties that I'll be sharing later this week. Until then, here's an adorable 60s-inspired dress for you to admire (and buy if you wish!).

There's really isn't a lot to write about today. I don't like to sound so boring, but we spent today relaxing, napping, and hanging out with the cat. We're currently cooking up some delicious black bean burgers and that I am overly-excited about. It's been a good three-day weekend and will be time to return to work tomorrow.

We ended up going to the Columbus Museum of Art today for Geoff's birthday. It's free on Sundays, so we just headed down to mosey. There were a few new exhibits that were pretty interesting. The weather wasn't awful — mostly just overcast and a little warm.

Today we spontaneous took a little trip to the zoo! The parking lot was PACKED (hey, it is Saturday), but it seemed like most of those people were headed to the adjoining water park. We saw lots of sleepy animals and the weather was overcast enough to help us stay comfortable all day.
Get ready, Minis! I have the loveliest little giveaway for you — behold the NYX "All I've Ever Wanted" Box. This is truly a trooper of a palette, I must say. Complete with 72 eyeshadows, 8 face colors, 6 lip colors, 4 blushers and face powders, all in a lovely black box with mirrors and applicators. The All I've Ever Wanted box retails for $28 on NYX's website (where it is currently sold out), or you can have your chance at winning here on Mini Penny!
I don't really care much for Miranda July's work, but there's just something about this image that gets me. I think recently with all of the good things that have been happening, I sometimes catch myself thinking, Is this really happening? am I here? Does anyone else do this or am I crazy?

It's Friday! Pardon the terrible Rebecca Black song that running through my head as I type that, but I"m very excited about the weekend. Why? Well, Geoffrey's birthday is on Sunday and we both have Monday off — meaning we are going to celebrate his birthday at night like we had wanted!

I cannot believe it's Thursday already! I wanted to mix up my wardrobe a little bit today and "get creative," so this is my attempt at that! I'm so used to pairing a nude bandeau or bodysuit under lace tops, that I thought I'd throw my new zip-front bandeau over my bodysuit!

Remember how I was talking about picking up some velvet leggings? Where here they are in all of their burgundy and velvety glory! They are probably going to turn into my go-to fall and winter comfy item. I can't wait to pair these with cropped band tees, cardigans, and boots. All of the summer heat this year has gotten me rather excited for fall layers!

I'm so excited about my new hair! If you've been watching, you probably noticed that I changed it to a big purple chunk recently while trying to bleach it out (and still not pulling the color light enough after two bleaches). Today I was finally able to pull up the color and threw on some Manic Panic Virgin Snow toner on it — wha-la!

I am so stupidly excited about today. I spent the day with my best friend, Bob. Bob and I have known each other since way back when we both worked for Apple. One day we started talking about our photography and have been great pals ever since! We both adore vintage cameras, thrifting, and Larry David — and we always have the best laughs!

No matter what you call it — Denim Dan, the Canadian tuxedo, the denim sandwich — it is usually approached in a negative manner. Recently I've been wanting to try the denim-on-denim trend but have been too much of a scaredy cat to do it. Well, here we are!

I will go ahead and say that my first Birchbox was a total success. Turns out I ended up loving a few things that were included in my box. Some of there are so awesome that I want to spread the info onto you and hopefully you can have great results as well! See the full review after the jump.
Today is one of the first day (in a long time) where none of my items were thrifted! With that being said, the only piece that I bought not-on-sale were the shoes (which I still got an employee discount on anyway, so I made out pretty well). I'm going to go ahead and spam you with a few recent Instagram shots, is that okay?

Today was pretty exciting! The weather was finally under 80°s and we had a nice breeze. It actually almost felt like autumn! After the extra-hot summer we've had, I'm totally ready for fall this year — not to mention that I can't wait to layer!

As I write this, there's a ton of thunder and lightening happened outside! There was seriously just a lightning strike that was so loud, I almost fell off of the sofa. Kitty is just staring up at the window waiting for the apocalypse, I think.
I'm going to go ahead and dub today "Tuesday Shoesday." I'm just in a footwear kind of mood! Anyway, I love to regularly peruse KarmaLoop. As of today, there is now a referral/KarmaLoop code that will be living on my sidebar, I thought maybe I would share some of my favorite shoes from their current (huge) stock. See my picks after the jump.
Look at these beautiful shoes! I wanted to share these with you in a sort of "review." I've blogged about my favorite Big Buddha black Rylee oxfords in the past, and Chris over at Big Buddha contacted me and let me know about Big Buddha's new blog.
He was also kind enough to send me over two pairs of beautiful (and I mean beautiful!) shoes. First there are these lovely floral oxfords, the Rilo. You can pick up a pair for yourself here. They run true to size and are a little stiff at first, but will break in and be extra comfortable just like my Rylees. I've been lusting after floral oxfords of a while and these are amazing.
And secondly there is the heart-warming and height-increasing Big Buddha Fine. These suede wedges are an update to the previous canvas version. I put these on and wore them around the apartment as soon as they came in the post. I can't believe how wonderful they are in person.
You can also pick up Big Buddha shoes at Baker's stores (that's where I got my first style of black oxfords!). I am so stinking excited to see what else Big Buddha come out with soon and will be watching their blog closely for future styles. I'm going to be outfitting these today (once I decided which ones I want to wear first), so stay tuned!
What do you think? Do you have a favorite style by them?
I'm so excited to announce that I've listed some of your favorite pieces today on Etsy! That's right, there are new items for sale and you should get 'em while they're hot. Here are just a few:
1. Black floral romper, $18
3. Leather fringe halter
4. Blue floral romper, $18
5. Handmade vintage denim dress, $32
6. Pink scalloped button up, $12.50
Remember that you save 10% when you use the code BLOGSPOT at checkout. I have also marked a few items down, so what are you waiting for?
Good morning, Minis! Like I said last night, I entered yesterday's look in the second round of PacSun's Dress Irresponsibly contest! The them is Accessorize Your Face Off Face-Off, so I think I fit the bill without being overly-done.
Anyway, hop over and vote for me! It'd greatly appreciate it. And if you'd want to share the link with your friends (or enter one yourself and share your link here!) that would be awesome, too! One of the bonuses of being an early bird is that I've submitted before anyone else and have a head start, haha! Let's do this :)
Also keep in mind that the advertising space giveaway that I posted about yesterday is still open and now voting for my entry counts as an extra comment and chance to win.

I swear that I don't have chronic-b***h-face — it was raining and I was just trying to get these photos taken! I stood in the rain for what felt like forever (probably just a few minutes in reality) in Ohio's bizarre weather of half-rain-half-sun. What can ya do?

It's Saturday and I somehow managed to not leave the apartment today! Can you believe it? I "slept in" (aka: 10am), made a few posts while Geoff went on a long bike ride and then started cleaning the apartment. I moved a lot of things around to make extra space and ended up cleaning out my entire wardrobe.
Edit // I want to point out that many months after I wrote this review, I started reading about GoGoGirlfriend providing less than good service to its customers and leading subscribers on via extra fees, etc. While my box was good, it looks as though they have gone downhill very, very much. I do not recommend subscribing to GoGoGirlfriend! Read more here.
I've been patiently waiting for my GoGoGirlfriend sample box to get here and am so excited to finally share it with all of you! I'm familiar to the idea of subscription sample boxes — I first heard about BirchBox from Tish — so when GoGoGirlfriend offered for me to review their May and June boxes, I couldn't refuse.
Happy Thursday Minis! I know you all have been waiting patiently to find out the winner for the Recycled Clutch Giveaway I posted a few weeks ago. And guess what? We have a winner...
Congrats to Vita over at Somethin' Outta Nothin' for winning my very first giveaway! I hope you enjoy it!
For those of you who didn't win this time around, thanks so so so much for entering and keep in mind that I will be doing more giveaways soon. Keep watching and and enjoy the rest of the day. :)

If you're keeping up with my blog, you probably know that I went thrifting with my mother today! The weather wasn't as bad as it has been lately — I mean, it was rainy and grey, but a little bit cooler. We started early and were able to squeeze in two shops, milkshakes, and the grocery store. Woohoo!

Yet another long day! My shift at work was extended (and just as busy), so when I came home I was beat! I had to package up some Etsy sales and get 'em mailed out, though, so I didn't have a moment to rest. Yikes! Plus my momma is coming up tomorrow to go thrifting and get lunch, so I can't even sleep in on my day off (worth it though, I love thrifting with mom!).
A little while ago, I submitted my favorite self-manicure to StyledOn's Hard as Nails DIY Summer Contest. I got a lovely little email today reminding me that voting is now open.
This is the manicure that I submitted. I know, the photos isn't the greatest, but it gives you a pretty clear pictures as to what I did here. I completed this manicure back in March or April. I had a heck of time finding that Essie matte topcoat, too!
First I put on two coats of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear polish in Black Out. I let them dry completely and then put on two topcoats of Essie Matte About You polish. As a final touch, I painted the french tips again with the gloss black polish. In the right light, you can see the stark contrast between the matte and gloss! It has definitely been one of my favorites.
You can vote for me here!
Be sure to check out the entries. There are some great ones! Definitely a lot of DIY inspiration came to me while I was browsing. You can vote once per day and the voting lasts until August 7th! Thanks a million, Minis!
